Halloween Pumpkin Pail Limoges Box with Lift Out Ghost

A jack o lantern pail, the kind carried door to door on Halloween night, holds a friendly little ghost that lifts right out. Rochard made this playful set in porcelain and painted it by hand in Limoges, France.

Trick or Treat in Porcelain

The pumpkin pail is a symbol of Halloween fun, and Rochard added a small ghost as a surprise passenger. Keep him peeking from the pail or set him beside it to haunt the shelf. Each piece is brushed by hand, so no two pails or ghosts are identical.

From the Kilns to October

Small porcelain boxes became a fashion in 18th-century France for holding snuff, pills and beauty patches, and today they turn up for every holiday on the calendar, Halloween included. Put this one on an entry table near the candy bowl, an October mantel, or a bookcase among the fall leaves. It is more friendly than frightening, which makes it a good fit for the neighbor who hands out the best treats on the block.
